HPD Awards DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD to Ashland Police Officer Lieutenant Richard Briggs

by Chief John Moore
8/15/2016

Lieutenant Richard Briggs, Ashland Police Department

I wish to express this Department’s and the Town of Holliston’s extreme gratitude for the actions you took on July 27, 2016 in this town when you were able to apprehend an armed robbery suspect. Within ten minutes of the crime, officers, including you, from five towns were actively engaged in searching for the suspect who had presumably hidden in the area to avoid capture. Once the suspect was located he fled again, and for all intents and purposes he was still armed. You, at great risk to yourself, gave chase and were able to bring the suspect to the ground where he was cuffed and formally arrested.

This was an extremely dangerous incident to both the many officers on scene and to the general public in the area. Through your extraordinary actions the threat was neutralized, a suspect was taken into custody, and he will face a rigorous prosecution for serious charges.

Your heroic actions are surely commendable, and the residents of this town truly appreciate your efforts that resulted in their safety and security being insured on that day.

Respectfully Awarded to You,

Chief John J. Moore
