Town Administrator Paul LeBeau Retirement Party

by The Staff
6/27/2015

Anthony's was filled with friends and coworkers who were there to wish Paul all the best on his retirement.

The ladies of Town Hall gathered around Mark Schultz for a little light entertainment while waiting for the speeches to begin.

Selectman Jay Marsden opened the public comment portion of the meeting with several one-liners that recalled Paul's time in office and what the times were like when he took office about 30 years ago: Prince Harry was born, Elton John married his first wife, Ghost Busters opened at local theaters, the first MacIntosh computer went on sale (Paul said his is still working in his office,) gas was $1.09 per gallon and the average salary was $22,100.00. Jay credited Paul with leading Holliston through many rough periods.

Paul thanked Jay for his kind remarks and said that he has already had two job offers: Greg Lewis wants Paul to work for him as a carpenter and Bob Blair offerred to hire Paul to water plants.

Paul passed the credit for the success the town has seen while he was in office to the "working team" at Town Hall. He said that everyone truly works for the benefit of the residents of Holliston. "No one works with blinders on," he said.

Carl Damigella recalled his many years as Selectman while Paul was in office. With the renovations to Town Hall pending, Carl noted that Paul would be moving out of what is now Liz Greendale's office, giving up a view of the cemetery for a "better view of downtown." But Paul responded that looking at the cemetery "was the view of the future." Carl ended his remarks with one word to remember: "sewerage."

Festivities were paused for a moment to sing Happy Birthday to the Tree Warden, Mark Ahronian.

Chief Moore offerred Paul "a piece of wood for your first day on the job with Greg." It was actually a Distinguished Service Award to Paul from the Holliston Police Department for his many years of dedicated service to public safety.

Jay Marsden presented Paul with a lovely parting gift: a watch.

Ceci, Paul and son David.

What are you going to do with four more nights a week at home?

And as busy as he was, Paul took the time to help serve meals at the Salvation Army in Framingham - good luck with your retirement Paul, I think you'll enjoy it...

I cannot say enough good things about Paul and what he has done for this town over the last 32 years. If you drive anywhere in Holliston you will see something that has benefited from his guidance. He has often been the calm center in the middle of many storms and has been quick to offer alternative solutions while never attempting to force them on anyone. If any one person can be called a resource that is what Paul has been to the many boards and citizens over the years. He would either have the answer to vexing questions on the spot or be able find them quickly, never slowing the process down. The position of Town Administrator will be filled, filling Paul's shoes will take some time. We were very luck to have him an wish him all the best as he joins me in the "cheap" seats at Town Meeting.
