Hand held use is allowed Sat, Sunday and Monday, and residents are also permitted (depending on their house number) to water on either Wed/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday. The "ban" allows 5 days of watering.

The Water Ban is mandated by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) beginning every May 1 ending every September 30. There is an available link on the Water Department's web site. The ban prohibits lawn watering between 9 AM and 5 PM as well as on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Outside water use is allowed on an odd (Wednesday and Friday) and even (Tuesday and Thursday) policy. NO LAWN WATERING SATURDAY, SUNDAY or MONDAY. Permits issued for new lawn / new shrubs ( Please call the Water Department Office at 508-429-0603).

Is the handheld use on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday only within the restricted hours, or anytime during the day? Is handheld use forbidden during the rest of the week, forbidden outside of restricted hours, or allowable only within restricted hours on allowable odd - even days?

Could someone summarize WHY the DEP forces us to impose this ban? I had heard it's because we cannot account for too large a portion of our well water supply...? Interesting that the Mass DEP web site does not show Holliston as one of those municipalities having any sort of water use restrictions.

AJ - Not dumb - Odd-even ban means - on even numbered days, houses on the even-numbered side of a street can water. Odd number side? Water on odd days on the calendar.

Can someone explain to be the odd even ban? I feel like it is a dumb question but it isn't sinking in for me.

Thanks, Herb. I have notified the WD that the town's web page for this is down.

Clicking on the above link gets you to the Town Web Site but when you click on the "click here for water ban" link you get "page not found". Somebody has to look into this.
