It was a month ago that the Wells Fargo Wagon pulled to a stop in front of Fiske’s General Store, leaving behind a treasure chest full of books  entitled “101 Baseball Places to See Before You Strike Out”. Authored by Josh Pahigian, the book lists the country’s top baseball destinations, and includes our own Mudville neighborhood, which sits proudly at number 75.

Leading citizen and proprietor John Paltrineri has secured a number of these books, which will be available for purchase this Saturday, April 18th at noon at Casey’s, when Pahigian travels to town for a book signing event.  Originally scheduled to take place last month but postponed due to weather conflicts, Pahigian will read from his book, in which he details how “our Mudville” happily stakes the claim to having been the community that inspired Ernest Lawrence Thayer to pen his famous Casey at the Bat poem.  The book costs $20 cash.

Local dignitaries, The Mudville Base Ball Club and others will join in welcoming Pahigian to this event which celebrates a neighborhood and a town, firmly recognizing their continuing contribution as outposts of true baseball Americana.

And yet another accolade for Holliston. Some years ago, the Williams Shoe Co. of Mudville, had the distinction as producer of the worlds largest boot which is presently at the Ripley museum in CA. Yea Mudville. !!!
