The Re-Act Players, Holliston's middle school drama club, will perform the classic musical, The  Wizard of Oz, in four performances beginning Friday, April 10 at 7 pm, Saturday, April 11 at 2 pm and 7 pm, and Sunday April 12, at 2 pm.  All performances will be held at Holliston's Robert Adams Middle School located at 323 Woodland Street.  Tickets are $12, and will be available for sale beginning March 14 at Fiske's General Store and Coffee Haven, both located in Holliston's downtown area.  Tickets may also be available at the door.

The Re-Act Players, under the guidance of well-respected local director Beth Hecker, have established themselves as a premier middle school drama society with a string of sold out hit musical shows including Fiddler on the Roof and Annie.  The Wizard of Oz is expected to attract tremendous interest from local theater-goers both old and young, so all are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance as most shows do sell out.

On March 21st from 11 - 12 pm, the Holliston Public Library hosted Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Lion, Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West Wizard of Oz along with others for a sneak preview performance.  From there, the characters split up and greet children at Fiske's General Store and Coffee Haven from 12:30 - 2:30 pm. Children had an opportunity to get autographs with their own pen and paper or favorite object.

Students on stage rehearsing

One of the most remarkable aspects of this performance of The Wizard of Oz is that approximately 75 students participate in the production, making it one of the most far-reaching and popular activities within the middle school.  The Robert Adams Middle School Drama Club's mission statement is to help students learn and grow through theater, with an emphasis on promoting diligence, teamwork and professionalism. These students participate as actors, dancers, singers, set-builders, or serve as part of the student-led stage crew. Hecker, who has led the Middle School drama program since 2012, along with her production team, has grown interest in the program by developing a unique team that gives students access to expert instruction in the fields of acting, dancing, set building, stage crew development and voice coaching.

"I have been involved in directing plays and musicals in multiple schools over the years, but the talent and commitment, as well as parent involvement at Holliston Middle School is exceptional," said Hecker.  "I believe the students involved in this production of The Wizard of Oz are performing at the highest possible level and it will be exciting and fun for all.”

The staff were on Washington Street at the Superette on Saturday to meet all.
