Rep. Carolyn Dykema is pleased to announce that during Thursday night's legislative debate on the rules of the House of Representatives, she helped lead a successful effort to make votes of House committees available to the public online. The vote was unanimous.

"We've known for a long time that this was a good idea but as is often the case, it's important to spend time getting the details right. It's been great to work with the Speaker and many of my colleagues to finally get this done," said Dykema. "This effort will help open up the process and increase public confidence in what we do."

The amendment to the House Rules was sponsored by Speaker DeLeo (D-Winthrop) and co-sponsored by Representatives Dykema (D-Holliston), Hogan (D-Stow), Fernandes (D-Milford), Gregoire (D-Marlboro), Ferrante (D-Gloucester), Cantwell (D-Marshfield), Cutler (D-Duxbury), Arciero (D- Westford), Mannal (D-Barnstable), DiZoglio (D-Methuen), and Heroux (D-Attleboro).

The same evening, Dykema also voted to retain the 8-year term limit for the position of House Speaker.

Scott, Mark's post (above) includes the correct link. Y=add term limits back into the rules. N=do not add term limits.

I found this linked from another discussion on the topic. I can't be sure that it really is the roll call for speaker term limits. Especially since the "Nays" won; suppose it depends on the wording of the item. But if this is the right roll call, thank you Rep Dykema for not voting with the sheep! http://www.mass.gov/legis/journal/RollCallPdfs/189/00012.pdf?Session=189&RollCall=00012

Thank you for making the votes open to the public. I have spent the whole weekend trying to find out who voted for the Speaker for Life, and how they voted. Could you post a comment with a link to the vote roll call. Thanks
