Placentino Courtyard Has a New Name

It gives me a great deal of personal pleasure to inform you that the Holliston School Committee, by a unanimous and enthusiastic vote, voted to name the courtyard in the Placentino Elementary School in honor of Linda Weene.  For those of you who are new to the Placentino family, Mrs. Weene retired in August after 28 years of service as a teacher and administrator in the Holliston Public Schools, with the last 11 1/2 years spent as the Principal of the Placentino School.  Now, for generations to come, Holliston’s youngest and most curious learners will be able to explore the outdoors within the safe and welcoming confines of the “Linda Weene Courtyard.”

The decision to rename the Courtyard in her honor comes after a request was made by the members of the Placentino staff who actively participated in organizing Linda's retirement party.  In the School Committee’s view (and in my view as well), there is no better way to honor the life-long service of a caring, compassionate and relentless educator than to name an educational space in their honor.  I know that Linda has always seen the Courtyard as an integral part of her school – a place where hands-on instruction can take place in one portion while, in another area, a handful of students can enjoy a great book in the warm spring sun.  Regardless of the educational activity, it will now be taking place in the “Linda Weene Courtyard” – a fitting name for a beautiful, flexible and well-utilized instructional space.

Please join me in congratulating Linda on this remarkable honor.  I look forward to the opportunity to walk through the “Linda Weene Courtyard” with Linda and seeing active and engaged students enjoying an instructional space whose name is now as honorable as its purpose.

Bradford L. Jackson, Ed.D.
