Gerbers Looking for Your Help for the Holidays

by Jonathan Gerber

The holidays are almost here again!  Time to start thinking about giving gifts … and giving back.  We’re starting our annual Holiday Dreams gift drive early this year, and we hope you’ll join us!

The holiday season presents an opportunity to change lives.  As many of you know, for the past eight years, Leslie and I have sponsored a gift drive in partnership with the Woodrow Wilson School in Framingham, Jewish Family Services of Metrowest, Holliston Schools, Youth and Family Services, and DSS.  Last year we helped more than 400 families — bringing us to around 2,000 kids throughout the years!

Giving to those who need, lending time and financial support, providing excitement and the joy of gift-getting for kids who wouldn’t normally have that … what an amazing impact we can make!  Please help us continue to affect lives in such a positive way, and the reason for letters like this:

“Thank you for your generous gifts!  We are very grateful!  It has been a hard year for us.  I am a single parent of 11 year old twins with complex medical issues.  My dad passed away about a year ago + besides wrapping up his affairs, I have many responsibilities for my 91 year old mom who has dementia.  I am also responsible for grocery shopping and errands for a disabled friend who has kept us going for many years.  Your gifts are very bright spot among our challenges.  Thank you!!!!”

Getting involved is so easy.  Simply let us know how many children you’d like to sponsor (you can take on an entire family or individual kids).  We will then send you the children’s wish lists, which we get from their parents.  You can do the shopping yourself (resulting in the most fulfilling shopping experience ever).  Or, if you’re unable to do the actual shopping but still want to participate, just donate money — and we’ll do the buying.  As for wrapping, it’s covered! The parents of the kids we’re helping wrap all of the gifts, with paper we provide. This both gives them a chance to see what their children are receiving and saves us from a time-consuming job.

Every child deserves that feeling of holiday excitement — anticipating surprises, ripping off the wrapping paper, getting just what they were wishing for.  But without our help, many kids wouldn’t get that chance.  So much thanks to all of you who join us in making holiday dreams come true every year — please let us know if you’d like to do it again.  And for those of you new to the gift drive, if you’d like to participate, please email us back or call.  (If not, that’s ok too.)  We are simply sending out this information to provide our family and friends with an easy opportunity to help many needy kids and families this holiday season.

Gift-giving doesn’t get much more rewarding than this.  We know it will be one of the most joyful and fulfilling experiences that you ever have.  You are making a real difference!

We hope to hear from you soon!

Happy Holidays,

Leslie and Jonathan Gerber
